Recirculating Aquaculture Breeding – Step Seven
Ozone and UV Light (Ozone & UV)
The use of ozone generators has been around for many years, but the effects of over-consumption can cause severe damage to fish. In farms that are enclosed or nested, ozone gas leaks can also be harmful to people working in the area. Because they may inhale a lot of ozone gas. Therefore, proper adjustment of the ozone level in a fish farming system and monitoring of proper loading of the ozone system in fish farming with proper ventilation is necessary to achieve a positive and safe result.
Ozone is an efficient way to eliminate unwanted micro-organisms by heavy oxidation of organic matter and biological organisms. In ozone gas operations, the fine particles break down into molecular structures that reconnect and form larger particles. With this form of flocculation, suspended solids can now be removed from the system instead of passing through various types of filters in the closed-circuit fish farming system. The technology also applies to water purification because it makes the water transparent and clean and free of any bacteria and parasites. It is especially suitable for large fish and small fish farms that are sensitive to fine particles and waterborne bacteria.
Ozone technology can also be used when inlet water needs to be disinfected in a closed-circuit fish farming or open-farm system. It should be noted that in many cases, using the UV system is a good and safe alternative and even a good complement to an ozone generator or ozone generator.
UV lamp
The UV lamp acts by using light along wavelengths that destroy DNA in biological microorganisms. Targeted in aquaculture bacteria and single-celled organisms. This method has been used for medical purposes for decades and does not affect fish and aquatic species because UV radiation is applied outside the fish farming area. It is important to know that bacteria grow rapidly in organic materials that control the bacterial count in fish farms. The best control is achieved when it is combined with the complete irradiation process, and thus removes the microorganism from the process water. UV systems can easily be used with a closed plumbing system or in an open channel system.
Note: Killing 90% of organisms seems necessary to control bacteria and viruses, so care must be taken in selecting the UV system for the fish farm.
The UV lamp used in aquaculture must be submerged and worked to maximize productivity, lights installed out of the water have little or no effect due to reflection of the water surface.
